Sheikh Russel Day celebrated with paying homage to his portrait
47 years ago today, Bangabandhu's innocent child was also killed by a bullet of a killer. If he had survived, he would have fulfilled the 57th spring of his life today. But today he is a memory. The first Sheikh Russell Day is being celebrated nationally through Bangladeshi embassies in the country and abroad through various programs with the memory of 'Sheikh Russel.
The ICT department has started observing the program by paying homage to the portrait of Sheikh Russell at 9 am on Monday. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak paid homage to the portrait at the ICT Tower with flowers. Senior Secretary of ICT Department NM Zeaul Alam, Acting Director General Rezaul Makshud Zahedi, Managing Director of Hi-Tech Park Authority Bikarna Kumar Ghosh and others were present on the occasion.
Officers and employees of all levels of various departments and agencies under the ICT department participated in it. At this time a minute's silence was observed seeking the forgiveness of Sheikh Russel's soul.
On the occasion of the day, a wreath was laid at the tomb of Sheikh Russell at Banani Cemetery under the leadership of NM Zeaul Alam, Senior Secretary, Department of Information and Communication Technology and Sheikh Russel National Council for Children and Adolescents.
In the greeting message given on the occasion of the day, the President Abdul Hamid said, Russell was a fourth-grader at University Laboratory School at the time of his death. The assassins wanted to wipe out the legacy of Bangabandhu's blood. But they did not succeed. Sheikh Russel is a name of love for the children and youth of the country.”
State Minister for ICT Palak said that “Sheikh Russel is a name of love for children, teenagers, young and well-meaning people of Bangladesh. Today, Sheikh Russel has become a human being in the villages, towns and vast areas of Bangladesh as a symbol of building an enlightened life for the neglected, backward and disenfranchised children.”
"All human beings are committed today to put a smile on the face of every child and youth in Bengal, bearing in mind the tragic loss of Sheikh Russel."
After that, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the inauguration ceremony of the national level celebration virtually by joining at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center at 10 o'clock.
